The residence route

The IGM lists temporary categories and a permanent route after five continuous years as a temporary resident, with other family/regional routes.

Temporary residence and permanent conversion

IGM publishes a permanent route after five continuous years of temporary status, alongside family and regional categories. Identify which temporary purpose you can actually document and whether a guarantor is required. Do not substitute a shorter period quoted from an older website. Obtain the current category form and clarify which authority accepts the application, how appointments work and what action is needed if more evidence is requested.

Citizenship and what still needs checking

Permanent residence is not naturalisation. The nationality procedure, qualifying residence and applicant-specific evidence still need verification.

From application to registration and identification

The IGM instructions distinguish approval, residence registration and the later RENAP identity-document step. Prepare the actual address evidence requested at registration and check your biographical details before signing. Keep payment receipts and document copies together. Permanent immigration status is not a naturalisation decision: obtain a separate nationality assessment rather than treating the five-year conversion rule as a passport rule.
