The Netherlands ahead: why I prefer to prepare an exit before I need one
I would rather build options while I can think clearly than wait for a crisis. Preparation is a choice; a predicted collapse is not a fact.

Why the direction concerns me
My concern is the combined pressure of costs, taxation, expanding regulation and dependence on decisions made far from everyday life. I want room for remote work, travel and eventually a more independent home. Paraguay fits that direction for me. Those priorities do not prove that the Netherlands has no future. A person with good work, strong relationships and a comfortable routine may reasonably value the benefits of staying.
Separate the current position from a scenario
Current law, an announced proposal and a worst-case possibility belong in different columns. A hypothetical Dutch citizenship-based tax is not something I can treat as enacted merely because the US uses citizenship-based rules. Defence policy can change, but an overseas residence is not a permanent guarantee against every future obligation. Keep the legal position dated and revisit it when a relevant law actually changes.
Prepare the reversible steps early
Learn the destination language, improve portable work, organise records and test a longer visit before irreversible commitments. Compare insurance, housing, banking and family access. Build an emergency reserve that is accessible in practice. A first immersion can reveal whether your preferred destination works beyond the holiday impression. Preparation gives you a choice between moving and staying; it does not require burning your bridges.
Make a genuine departure when the decision is made
Dutch deregistration and tax-residence analysis are separate. Work through the emigration checklist, assess the home and business you retain, update truthful financial records and file the required returns. Keep evidence of where you actually live and work. Seek written advice for your own pensions, company and property. My position is to prepare early and move coherently when it serves your life, rather than sell an unverified guarantee of future tax or military immunity.
