Where could you live next? A worldwide residence comparison framework

Compare the legal route and the life it supports before reducing the world to a tax-rate ranking.

Compare the rights behind a move: Rights, residence and tax are separate

By Ties Jezuit · Reviewed 14 October 2026 · General orientation

Start with rights you already have

Nationality, family connections and existing permissions can make one region much simpler than another. A Dutch citizen’s EU position is different from a tourist stay in Latin America. Descent, genuine family relationships, employment and study may create routes that do not appear in a generic investor ranking. List those possibilities before paying for an elaborate alternative. A right to visit is different from residence, work permission and eventual citizenship.

Compare route families across regions

In Latin America, Paraguay, Bolivia, Uruguay, Panama, Argentina and El Salvador are among the countries people ask me about. In Europe, consider your existing EU rights alongside Cyprus, Portugal, Greece or other places that fit your routine. The Gulf and Asia involve different employment, business, investor or long-stay frameworks; the UAE, Thailand and Malaysia are research candidates, not interchangeable legal packages. Africa, the Pacific and the Americas outside Latin America add further routes whose eligibility needs country-specific checking. This page is a shortlisting method, not an audit of every country’s law.

Use the same comparison fields

For each candidate, record nationality eligibility, permitted work, dependants, physical presence, renewal, absence limits, documents, official fees and ongoing costs. Add a separate tax-residence column and another for actual income taxation. Put citizenship conditions and dual-nationality consequences at the end, not inside the residency score. An advertised minimum investment is not the whole household cost or proof that a passport follows automatically.

Give lifestyle and failure conditions equal weight

Language, climate, healthcare access, transport, schooling, community and connectivity can overturn an attractive administrative result. Write what would make you reject each option and test the leading candidate in person where possible. I can help build the comparison and coordinate agreed research. Current eligibility and professional advice remain specific to the country and your circumstances.
