Paraguay, the US and Israel: alignment, influence and the limits of a safety thesis
Diplomatic ties are documented. Claims that they guarantee protection or make a country a vassal need more evidence.

Start with the documented relationship
Paraguay maintains diplomatic relations with the United States and Israel. Official Paraguayan reporting records the reopening of its embassy in Jerusalem during the president’s December 2024 visit. The location of an embassy is a meaningful diplomatic signal. It does not by itself establish the full military, economic or political relationship between two countries. Compare official agreements and actions instead of inferring everything from a building or ceremony.
Influence and vassal status are different claims
I am interested in whether close alignment gives a smaller country room to manoeuvre or creates dependence. Calling a country a vassal is an interpretation that requires a defined meaning and evidence of control. Diplomatic friendship alone does not prove that domestic policy is dictated abroad. Nor does it prove claims about unnamed elites choosing the country or guaranteeing that it will never be targeted. I will not turn those assumptions into established facts.
Test the claim that Paraguay will be left alone
Ask which risk the relationship could change and through what mechanism. Diplomatic access, trade, aid and security cooperation are different channels. A friendly government can change, a conflict can affect shipping, and financial restrictions can reach people far from a battlefield. Any safety thesis must consider its failure conditions. Distance and relationships may matter, but immunity is a much stronger claim.
Build a base for its ordinary merits too
My Paraguay decision also concerns work, a daily routine, relationships and the possibility of a future home. I do not want the entire plan to depend on predicting great-power behaviour correctly. Follow dated official developments and keep practical alternatives. A geopolitical interpretation should support a life you can maintain rather than become its only foundation.
