LIFE STRATEGY · PLAN B
Sometimes staying home—or moving nearby—is the better freedom plan
You do not have to cross an ocean to take control of your life. A maintained backup can support a good life at home.

Leaving is a tool, not a test of courage
Some people have ageing parents, shared custody, a strong business or a community they genuinely love. Walking away from those foundations may reduce their freedom. Other people mainly need a quieter town, affordable housing or a different work arrangement. I can help compare a move, but I do not want a relocation service to become pressure to relocate. The useful outcome is a better life for you, including when that outcome is staying.
A nearby move can solve the actual problem
Compare a new neighbourhood, another region and a nearby country before a distant relocation. Travel time to family, familiar language, professional recognition and access to healthcare can matter more than a low advertised tax rate. EU citizens have important mobility rights within the EU, subject to the conditions for longer residence. Moving nearby can still change your tax position, benefits and insurance, so proximity should not be confused with administrative simplicity.
Keep a backup that you can maintain
An additional residence permit may create an alternative place to stay if circumstances change. Check visits, expiry, absence limits, renewals and what family members receive. Immigration permission alone does not establish tax residence. A backup also needs a realistic travel budget, documents you can retrieve and somewhere you would actually want to spend several months. Do not collect permits whose conditions you cannot meet or whose countries you have never seriously considered.
Prepare without living in permanent alarm
Build an emergency reserve, useful skills, reliable account recovery and copies of essential records. Improve health, work and relationships where you are now. Set review triggers such as a job change, a family need or an enacted rule affecting your position. A Plan B works best when it reduces panic. It should let you enjoy today while preserving options, rather than convince you that happiness is impossible until you leave.
