Ecuador: plan residence and citizenship separately

The residence route
The foreign ministry’s e-visa system separates temporary and permanent categories. Select your actual ground and current evidence requirements.
Use the official e-visa category, not an adjacent-country rule
The Ecuadorian foreign ministry directs applicants to its electronic visa service. Select the temporary or permanent category relevant to your situation and read its current checklist before paying or uploading records. A regional agreement can depend on nationality; residence elsewhere in Latin America does not create the same entitlement. Clarify what happens after approval, including identity registration and any maintenance obligations.
Citizenship and what still needs checking
Naturalisation is a separate foreign-ministry file; do not count a temporary visa as a guaranteed citizenship clock. Current qualifying conditions need review.
Keep the nationality dossier separate
The nationality service has its own dossier verification and decision process. Keep dated residence decisions, address history, entries and exits and the evidence supporting your lawful activity. Before counting time toward naturalisation, ask which status starts that count and how absences are treated. Confirm the current law with the nationality authority; a visa approval or identification order is not a nationality approval.
