Cyprus tax residence: the day count is only part of the plan
Read the current tax-year conditions before treating sixty days as a complete solution.

Count the right days
The Tax Department describes residence through more than 183 days in the tax year or a conditional sixty-day route. The latter also requires no more than 183 days in another country, a qualifying Cyprus business or employment/office connection, and a permanent home owned or rented. Sixty days alone is insufficient.
Use the current tax-year wording
The government initiative’s FAQ explicitly separates rules through 2025 from 2026 and says the former condition of not being tax resident elsewhere was removed from 1 January 2026. This does not extinguish another country’s tax claim. Get advice on overlapping residence and treaty treatment rather than copying an older checklist.
Do not confuse residence and domicile
The Tax Department treats domicile separately for Special Defence Contribution. Its guidance includes a seventeen-out-of-twenty-year deemed-domicile rule. A residence permit, company or non-dom label does not establish that every income stream is untaxed. Have salary, dividends, gains, social contributions and any company obligations reviewed on their own facts.
Build an evidence-led departure plan
Before moving money, prepare a calendar of countries and days, home agreements, work or office evidence and an income inventory. Ask advisers in the relevant jurisdictions to explain unresolved ties and filing duties in writing. Keep the tax analysis separate from immigration and bank applications; this introductory guide is not a personal tax opinion or a completed comparison with UAE and Paraguay.
