Future-proofing a Dutch exit: tax changes, nationality and military obligations
Prepare for policy change without pretending that today’s residence card grants immunity from future laws.

Treat a future rule as a scenario until it exists
I am interested in how governments could expand financial reporting, taxation or obligations in a crisis. Those are questions worth monitoring. A proposal, a political speech and enacted law are different evidence. Record the official text, effective date, affected people and transitional rules before changing a major life decision. Do not sell a current residency product as a guaranteed escape from legislation that has not been defined.
Citizenship-based taxation is a distinct model
The United States generally taxes citizens and resident aliens on worldwide income, with separate rules for relief and reporting. That demonstrates that nationality and residence can interact in a tax system. It does not establish that the Netherlands has adopted the same general model or will do so on a particular date. A Dutch future scenario needs its own legislation and analysis. Residence abroad, a second passport and formal renunciation would each raise different questions.
Military obligations cannot be inferred from a plane ticket
Rijksoverheid states that Dutch military service has not been abolished and that the duty to report is suspended. Current obligations, future activation and individual eligibility require official checking. Neither living in Paraguay nor obtaining another nationality should be advertised as an automatic exemption. If a real notice or change affects you, obtain qualified advice about the applicable rules and lawful options.
Build adaptability instead of a promise of immunity
Keep documents current, maintain enough liquidity for ordinary transitions, understand your nationality position and avoid dependence on a single platform. Choose review triggers: a enacted change, a provider notice or an actual change in your household. Preserve the relationships and skills that make more than one place workable. I can help organise scenario questions; no planning service can certify what every future government will do.
