Old World, New World and the words behind citizenship
Historical labels explain a viewpoint; they do not determine today’s nationality law.

Old and new were relative descriptions
Old World usually refers to Europe, Asia and Africa in a European historical frame; New World refers to the Americas encountered by Europeans. The Americas were not new to the people already living there. These labels describe a historical viewpoint rather than the age, sophistication or value of a society. They are useful to recognise in books and political arguments, but weak foundations for choosing a legal route.
Latin gives us a vocabulary, not a universal passport system
Mundus can mean world; novus means new and vetus means old. Ius, often written jus in modern usage, means law or right. Soli refers to soil and sanguinis to blood or descent. These expressions help distinguish ideas in nationality discussions. They do not establish that every New World country grants unconditional nationality by birthplace or that every Old World country uses only descent. Actual law combines conditions and exceptions.
Descent, birthplace and naturalisation are different mechanisms
A person may acquire nationality at birth through a parent or qualifying birthplace, or later through a naturalisation process. Some countries recognise an entitlement that still needs documentary proof. Others require registration, residence or a court decision. Marriage can affect a route without being nationality itself. A residence permit is a separate permission to stay and usually has its own conditions.
Translate the concept into your real case
Start with your parents’ nationalities, birthplaces, dates and the rules in force at the relevant time. Then ask what document proves the result and which authority decides. A Latin phrase is the beginning of a useful question, not the final answer. Keep cultural history, legal status and your preferred future separate so an attractive story does not become a false claim about eligibility.
